Hon. AM BLIGH (South Brisbane—ALP) (Premier) (10.02 am): Mr Speaker, 2009 is well and truly upon us, and our state’s exciting 150th anniversary celebrations have begun. In October last year I wrote to all MPs to help the government find Queensland’s top 150 icons as part of our Q150 celebrations. The Q150 icons program encourages Queenslanders to recognise and celebrate the people, places and stories that define our distinctive character. The icons initiative has, as expected, sparked much thought and debate among members and their electorates, and the Q150 unit has now received more than 700 icon nominations. From the macadamia nut to the mechanical sugarcane harvester, from the Big Pineapple to the Brolga Theatre, from the Keppels to the Glasshouse Mountains, from the surf-lifesaver to the Weis fruit bar, Q150 has received a vast range of local and statewide nominations.

Mr Lucas: I’d like a Weis fruit bar.

Ms BLIGH: The Deputy Premier is not eating ice-cream anymore.
